Join us for a closer look at Vaughan Williams’ brilliant, brassy, folksy, mysterious Symphony No. 2, A London Symphony. Is it “absolute music” focusing on musical relationships only, or an evocative musical “tone poem" describing London in the
early 1900s? During the first half of the program Oliver’s commentary and musical examples by the SFCO will give you a guided tour of the music and the
life of the composer. Then, after intermission, you'll hear a full performance of the work.
